Choosing a Ride-On Mower

If you have a large area of lawn to mow, then look no further than John Deere’s range of premium ride-on lawn tractors which are capable of mowing large lawns up to 10,000m2 (or a hectare). To put that into perspective, a football pitch is about 0.8 hectares and a rugby pitch is about a hectare, give or take a few metres!

Balmers GM have the full range of John Deere ride-on mowers for all types of jobs, so your choice depends on lawn size, and how intricate your garden is with flower beds and other obstacles that you may have to navigate.

You’ll also want to consider whether you want to cut and collect your grass clippings for a more formal lawn, or cut and discharge the clippings out of the side of the mower for lawns of a less formal nature or maybe you don’t want to spend time disposing of the cuttings at all then you could go for a lawn tractor that mulches the grass clippings?

All our John Deere riding lawn tractors are easy to operate from the comfortable driving seat and are mostly powered by powerful twin-cylinder petrol engines with easy to empty grass boxes and simple to adjust mowing height adjustment. Other great features include twin-touch hydrostatic pedals meaning there’s no gear selection, so they basically work like any automatic car would do, and some of the larger lawn tractors come with cruise-control as standard. Above all else, a John Deere premium ride-on lawn tractor will leave you with a class-leading cut and a beautiful lawn with a crisp, neat finish.

There are 3 key models in the John Deere premium ride-on lawn tractor range…..

The John Deere X116R is one of the entry-level models; a simple to operate lawn tractor that will cut lawns up to 3,000m2 quickly and comfortably. This riding mower comes with a 36” mowing deck and a rear collection grass box too. Other models in the X100 series are available with a side discharge deck where grass collection is not an option and all X100 series tractors are available with an optional mulching kit.

Moving up to the X300 series, the John Deere X350R has to be one of our favourite models (and one of the most popular) riding lawn tractors. Fitted with a 42” mowing deck and rear grass collection box this mower will tackle really large lawns up to 8,000m2. Standard features on all X300 series tractors include electric deck engagement, cruise control and a deluxe seat for superior operator comfort.

If you’re looking for a larger machine to cover a greater area, the stand out mower from the X500 series has to be the X584. With 4-wheel steer and power-steering as standard, this riding lawn tractor can easily be manoeuvred around trees, bushes and other garden obstacles. There is a choice of a huge 48” or 54” side-discharge deck, plus optional MulchControl which is an easy to use system letting you switch from side-discharge to mulching (and back again) simply by flipping a lever.

Finally, all models in the John Deere premium lawn tractor range come with a 2-year warranty, if you have your mower serviced annually either by Balmers GM or any other authorised John Deere dealer, your cover is extended to 4 years or 300 hours (whichever comes first) for extra peace of mind.
