Create a Luscious Lawn for Your Ride on Lawn Mower

When you are creating a lawn, you need to decide what purpose it will serve.  Lawns used for playing on need to be much more substantial than those serving a decorative function.  Before selecting which turf to lay or seed to sow, decide what you want to use your lawn for.  Different grass mixtures serve different purposes and have a range of maintenance needs, appearance and wearability.  Some are more suited for heavy use, whereas others are more attractive and delicate, so are better suited to decorative use.  When considering which grass to choose, make sure you think about the position of your lawn and think about the soil type, drainage and shade.

When you first look to establishing a lawn you need to decide which method will be best.  Seeding is the cheapest option, but the lawn cannot be walked on or subjected to wear and tear for upwards of a year.  This is the least practical option if there are any pets present, as they are likely to disturb the young seedlings before they have had chance to grow.  Turfing is the more expensive option, but the effect can be seen immediately and can be subjected to heavy wear after two to three months.

When cutting the grass, it is better to mow little and often to keep the growth even and consistent.  If the grass is cut drastically and at odd times the quality is likely to decrease and the appearance will worsen over time.  We recommend that you use a ride on lawn mower for large grass areas to ensure that the cut is consistent and looks professional.  Quality or decorative lawns should be cut even more frequently to keep their well groomed appearance, and aim for a 0.5cm length.

Maintenance is an essential part of keeping your lawn looking lush.  Watering and mowing, with either a ride on mower or lawn tractor for large areas, or pedestrian mowers for more small scale lawns, are frequent tasks.  Annually you should aerate, fertilise and top dress to keep it looking spick and span.  Maintaining quality controls such as weeding and ridding of pests and disease will be the finishing touch which makes your garden look lovely.
