Celebrate Gardening Week With The Perfect Lawn

It’s National Gardening Week from 15-21 April and after the regrettable weather of early 2013 the chance has finally arrived to get into the gardening groove. There are many different ways to get involved in National Gardening Week, whether it’s getting down to the local gardening centre, getting kids involved in gardening at school or just having your neighbors round at the weekend to relax in your garden at home.

Whatever your plans this weekend offers the perfect time to get back in control of your lawn, especially if the long winter months have been cruel to your garden. Here we will look at some simple advice for the best lawn and garden machinery care.

Out of the Cold

We really shouldn’t be talking about lawn care after the winter in mid April but our unpredictable weather this year has interfered with everyone plans. There a few simple but incredibly effective tips to mowing your lawn after the winter months.

Ensure sure your John Deere Lawnmower has been properly cleaned, making sure that the blades are clean and dry to ensure the best cut. Make sure that your blades are raised slightly higher than normal; this will avoid tearing the grass, which often happens when grass is still moist. Also, be sure to empty the bag or box often, reducing the weight that your John Deere Lawnmower is carrying.

Little and Often Will Brighten Up Your Garden

The key to a denser turf and greener grass is to avoid chopping up your lawn by close mowing. Most websites suggest the use of the ‘one third rule’, mowing approximately one third of the height of your grass. This will take away the risk of developing a patchy garden, which is caused by infrequent and short mowing. Following these simple rules and mowing around once a week will maintain a garden that will leave your neighbours green with envy.

Keep Reusing Those Cuttings

Once you’ve cut your grass you may be tempted to simply disregard the grass cuttings. Your grass cuttings will come in handy though and can be used as fertilizer. Grass consists almost entirely of water and will break down and return to the soil within a couple of weeks, providing your lawn with some of the nitrogen that it needs. So, after you’ve run your John Deere Lawnmower across your lawn, simply let those cuttings do their work!

If Gardening Week has got you wishing to be back in your then garden, then start with these simple steps to a better looking lawn!
